Is Houston a Good Student City?

Let's say that you're a parent thinking of sending your child to a Houston apartment and study in one of the city's premier universities. You might be having second thoughts, because after all, it is a huge city and living there might be a hassle, right? If he has been accepted by one and raring to go there, a lot of questions swirling inside your brain. Let's try to answer these in order to help you out:

Will he get top-notch education in Houston?

Rice University

Even if your child stays in a Houston apartment, he'll definitely get top-notch education, regardless of what university he's in. There are quite a few nationally-ranked universities and colleges in the city, and these include the following:
  • University of Houston – founded in 1927 and has the most students at 41,000. It is Texas' third largest university and is one of the four tier one universities in the state.
  • Texas Southern University – this college has over 10,000 students, and is actually the first state university in Houston. It is also historically known as one of the largest black colleges and universities in the United States
Aside from the above mentioned educational institutions, Houston's community college system is one of the largest in the country. It is also home to the Baylor College of Medicine, as well as the University of Houston – Clear Lake and University of Houston – Downtown, stand alone universities, not the branch of the University of Houston.

Rest assured, if your child gets into one of the above mentioned universities, he'll enjoy quality and top notch education!

Will he find a place to stay?

Most universities in the United States require freshmen to stay inside the campus – and it's the same in Houston's universities. Where else would they live if not in the dorm rooms? Anyway, if he reaches his sophomore year, there are a lot of Houston apartments  in the city, especially near the University of Houston. That being said, you wouldn't have to worry about the prices as well: rent in Houston is pretty cheap, as compared to other states. Also, he wouldn't have a problem accessing his utilities because wherever he stays, he'll be near a grocery and convenience store, even if he's a first-time renter.

Will he be all right?

Houston is generally a safe city, but petty theft and violent crimes always exist in large cities, right? That being said, he''ll definitely be all right, especially if he's careful. If you're looking at the educational side of things, just remember your days in college. He might go through what you did back in the day!

Overall, we can safely say that Houston is definitely a good student city. Aside from having renowned educational institutions, the cost of living is cheap, and given the number of businesses in the city, he might be able to get one in there!
